This is a long overdue but heartfelt thank you to the amazing oncology team: Dr. Wall, Jenna, Jackie and Rachel. Our Angels in Scrubs. They gave us 14 beautiful months with Tank after his cancer diagnosis. Every interaction with them was full of love and often humor because Tank decided to show his sassy side the last fourteen months of his life! What a gift they gave our family and everyone who loved our sweet boy. And my sincere gratitude to Anne Marie and all of the front desk crew for always making us feel welcome. Upon arriving for every appointment, we knew we chose the right team to help us navigate a really challenging time.

We unfortunately had to put our 14 y/o cat down on a Saturday evening, Blue Pearl was amazing! Made the experience as comfortable as they could for him and for us. Thankful for this vet!

On a Friday night in July, I brought my kitten to BluePearl Summerville in respiratory distress. He needed chest taps and oxygen — treatable, stabilizing care. The estimate was $4,032. I am a disabled caregiver of a profoundly autistic child. My household income is $994 SSI plus SNAP. I told staff this directly. Their answer was to tell me to get a loan. When I explained I had just been denied by CareCredit and had the denial and benefit verification documents ready to submit, I was not allowed to apply for anything. BluePearl advertises the Hope Fund — financial assistance for income-qualified families whose pets face life-threatening emergencies. There are signs for it in the building. When I asked, I was told it was not an option and no one could process assistance until Monday. This is a 24-hour emergency hospital. An assistance program that is unavailable on a Friday night for a critical patient is not a real program — it is advertising. The phones were also down for hours, so family could not get updates on a critical patient. My kitten's condition was treatable with the care they quoted. Because no payment path was allowed and no assistance was offered, euthanasia became the only option presented. He did not leave that building alive. I begged. After this experience, I looked up this location's Better Business Bureau profile: a D- rating for failing to respond to 12 consumer complaints. My experience fits the pattern exactly. BluePearl also solicits lobby donations for BluePearl Cares, a 501(c)(3) that claims to make emergency care "accessible for all." Donors should ask why a family with documented income of $994/month, standing in a BluePearl hospital with a dying kitten, was told assistance was "not an option." If the charity money isn't for a case like mine, what is it for?
